Sensory Integration Room inaugurated at Maia’s EB 2/3 school

A sensory integration room was inaugurated this Tuesday, June 13, at Escola EB 2/3 da Maia, part of Agrupamento de Escolas Gonçalo Mendes da Maia (AEGMMAIA). This unit is aimed at students with special health needs.

According to teacher Palmira Moura, speaking to NOTÍCIAS MAIA, the initiative came about when she became aware of the need to equip the room and promptly contacted the Cidade da Maia parish council, which offered a ball pool.

Later, in collaboration with the Maia Rotary Community Development Center, the Rotary Club of Maia and the Rotary Club of Águas Santas Pedrouços, a charity concert was held, the proceeds of which will go towards raising funds to equip the hall.

This room, which has now been inaugurated, provides benefits for students with special health needs, as it offers multisensory stimuli, contributing to their physical and emotional well-being. Currently, 21 students who benefit from the learning support center have access to the sensory integration room.

Although it was designed to meet the needs of these students, any student in the school can benefit from the resources available in this room.
